American College of the Caribbean Faculty of Medication & College of Central Lancashire Launch Distinctive Medical Program

CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE) – With current and future medical shortages in many countries, the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) and the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) have announced a new program to help address this global workforce problem . The universities are working together to offer a new blended program that will allow students from the UK and around the world to study towards their accredited medical qualification, the Doctor of Medicine (MD) – the postgraduate degree from doctors in the US

The program offers students a Post Graduate Diploma in International Medical Sciences (PGIMS) from UCLan followed by their MD at AUC. Students can then conduct clinical rotations at the AUC’s clinical sites, which include hospitals in the US, UK and Canada. This program, which begins in September 2019, aims to prepare students for the US Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE).

“The shortage of doctors is a pressing global workforce problem that affects not just the United States and Canada, but so many countries around the world. AUC is proud to have such a dedicated partner in UCLan for this historic program that aims to bring more doctors to countries and communities in need, ”said AUC Executive Dean Dr. Heidi Chumley. “The ability to train in multiple countries, including the US and UK, also provides aspiring physicians a unique opportunity to develop a global perspective.”

David Taylor, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the UCLan Board of Directors, said, “We are excited to take our partnership with AUC to the next level by signing this landmark agreement. We have come a long way after the devastating effects of Hurricane Irma when our universities worked together to build a temporary AUC medical school in Preston in just nine days. ”

“Together, we’ve shown that where there is real determination, great things can happen. The same dedication, energy, and dedication have now ushered in a new era in our relationship where successful completion of our new Post Graduate Diploma will enable PhD students to receive American-style medical training before moving into clinical Skip years of AUC medical program. ”

The Pro-Chancellor of UCLan added: “The course is completely separate from our own MBBS program and we are hiring an entirely new team dedicated to teaching the curriculum while working very closely with colleagues at AUC in Sint Maarten work together. ”

AUC is part of an alliance of Adtalem Global Education institutions, including the Ross University School of Medicine in Barbados, the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts, and the Chamberlain University School of Nursing in the United States.
