Austin lands first nonstop flight to Caribbean scorching spot

(Austin Culture Card) – Are you dreaming of taking off for a Caribbean beach vacation? American Airlines is making this dream a reality with a new, once-a-week, non-stop service from Austin to Nassau, Bahamas.

In May, American nonstop services will start between Austin and Nassau on Saturday, the airline announced in a press release on April 14. No other airline at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport flies non-stop to the Bahamas.

The Bahamas, with its 16 large islands, welcomed around 7.25 million international visitors in 2019. The tropical nation is best known for its pristine white sand beaches and turquoise waters.

The Fort Worth-based American was on the rise near Austin-Bergstrom. In March, the airline announced it was serving seven non-stop destinations once or twice a day, including Las Vegas, Nashville, New Orleans and Washington, DC

American’s new routes are added amid a surge in growth at Austin Airport:

  • Earlier this month, Allegiant announced it was investing $ 75 million in building an operating base in Austin that could lead to new routes and more flights on existing routes.
  • On April 22nd, Hawaiian Airlines will start non-stop flights to Honolulu twice a week.
  • Last month, Southwest revealed seven new or returning non-stop destinations in Austin, including Miami, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Salt Lake City and Destin-Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
  • Also in March, Alaska Airlines introduced a non-stop service to Boise, Idaho.

In 2019, Austin-Bergstrom was the 32nd busiest airport in the United States. 33), Houston’s Hobby Airport (# 36), and San Antonio International Airport (# 44).
