Royal Caribbean says two visitors check constructive for COVID-19 on Celeb Millennium cruise (June 10)

(Reuters) – Cruise operator Royal Caribbean said Thursday two guests on board its Celebrity Millennium ship had tested positive for COVID-19 but were asymptomatic and currently isolated.

The guests who shared a room are being monitored by the company’s medical team, the cruise operator said, adding that it is running contact tracing and speeding up testing for any people’s close contacts.

Celebrity Millennium was one of the first North American cruises to resume sailing last week after more than a year.

Royal Caribbean began sailing in June after meeting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) comprehensive guidelines, which included a fully vaccinated crew and anyone over 16 who provided evidence of vaccination against COVID-19.

Cruise companies are among the last to return to their pre-pandemic operations as the CDC put strict guidelines for the cruise industry on resumption of travel earlier this year after some ships became hotbeds for the virus last year.
